New Continental GTC Mulliner

Overview

The new Continental GTC Mulliner takes open-top grand touring to unprecedented heights, thanks to a stunning new design, an incredible new powertrain and a wealth of advanced technology.

As the pinnacle of the Continental GTC range, the Continental GTC Mulliner also includes a number of exquisite, Mulliner-only features, from its new floating-diamond Mulliner grille to its exclusive Mulliner wheels and interior colourways.

At the heart of the car, however, is its phenomenal new powertrain. Named the Ultra Performance Hybrid, it pairs a turbocharged 4.0 litre V8 petrol engine with a powerful electric motor, to offer the best of all worlds: the ability to drive at highway speeds on electric power alone, coupled with more power than any other Continental GTC before it.

The new exterior design will be the first thing to capture the attention of most onlookers, with newly designed headlamps flanking the front grille, their straight top edge lending the car a more purposeful gaze, compared to the twin-headlamp clusters seen on previous models.

From infotainment and passenger wellbeing to the chassis systems that serve to enhance every journey, the car is a showcase of Bentley technology, as well as design and performance. In short, this is the ultimate convertible Bentley.

Design

From the sparkling new floating diamond Mulliner grille to the slashed oval chrome tailpipe finishers at the rear, the new car looks radically different. Perhaps the most noticeable new features are the new headlamps, inspired by the gaze of a tiger readying to pounce on its prey. Satin silver mirror caps and exclusive, painted and polished 22” Mulliner wheels with self-levelling centre badges complete the picture.

On opening the door, you will see the Animated Welcome Lamps by Mulliner project a beautifully dynamic light show onto the ground, before you step over illuminated outer treadplates and inner treadplates inscribed with the words, ‘Handcrafted in Crewe, England’ – and into a wonderfully luxurious interior.

Mulliner emblems can be seen embroidered on every seat and also emblazoned in chrome on the Grand Black veneered fascia. The upholstery can be commissioned in your choice of eight three-colour combinations recommended by the Bentley design team, or alternatively, you can create your own. Each one features exclusive Mulliner quilting, as well as contrast stitching and accent stitching. Even the tonneau cover for the roof has been clad in the same exquisite quilting.

The fascia is veneered with rich Grand Black as standard, however it can be finished in open-pore wood, high-gloss lacquered wood, or your choice from a range of technical finishes that include an exclusive diamond-milled option for the console. Even the graphics in the driver’s information panel come with a choice of styles, including options unique to Mulliner models.

Performance

The new Continental GTC Mulliner is the pinnacle of the Continental GTC range, which means that as well as the finest features and finishes, it also includes Bentley’s most advanced powertrain. The Ultra Performance Hybrid system combines a turbocharged 4.0 litre V8 petrol engine with a powerful electric motor, resulting in new levels of performance.

When working together, it can deliver 771 bhp (782 PS) and 1,000 Nm (738 lb ft) of torque. It can take you from 0-60mph in just 3.2 seconds (0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and its top speed is 177 mph (285 km/h)*. You can even raise or lower the roof at speeds of up to 30 mph (50 km/h) – perfect for times when you suddenly encounter rain or change your mind about the roof position after moving off.

For greater safety, refinement and control, the car also features the Bentley Performance Active Chassis, which combines a number of components including new twin-valve dampers, Bentley Dynamic Ride, an electronic Limited Slip Differential (eLSD) and all-wheel steering.

The twin-valve dampers have enabled Bentley’s engineers to deliver even more variability between different driving modes, making Comfort mode smoother, for example, while Sport mode is now even more responsive and exhilarating. The eLSD boosts rear-wheel grip, especially when cornering hard, for a more thrilling driving experience, while Bentley Dynamic Ride is a 48-volt anti-roll system that keeps the car stable through corners without compromising ride comfort when cruising in a straight line. All-wheel steering offers twin benefits: at low speeds, the front and back wheels steer in opposite directions, for a tighter turning circle. At higher speeds, however, all the wheels steer in the same direction, for smoother, safer lane changes.

Technology

When you’re driving with the top down, you can enjoy the benefits of steering wheel and neck warmers to ensure you don’t get cold. On hotter days, meanwhile, ventilated seating will keep you cool.

Close the roof and you will experience a smart new air conditioning system. As well as an air ioniser, it includes a filter for potentially harmful PM2.5 particles. It can monitor PM2.5 levels inside and outside the car, displaying the results on the central touchscreen.

The car includes the wired and wireless versions of Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, plus a Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless phone charging. And with the new My Bentley App Studio, you can download and install third-party apps on the infotainment system, rather than running them from your phone.

The Front Seat Comfort Specification is installed as standard, as well as the Wellness Seating specification, which adds Postural Adjust and Seat Auto Climate. Postural Adjust uses a series of air pockets below the surface of each front seat to vary the pressure on your muscles throughout your journey, reducing fatigue. Seat Auto Climate keeps you comfortable throughout, by using sensors in the seat to measure humidity and temperature, automatically activating the seat’s heating and ventilation features in response.

A range of advanced driver assistance systems are provided thanks to the inclusion of the City Specification and the Touring Specification as standard. The City Specification covers urban driving, with features to help you park and avoid low-speed collisions. The Touring Specification, meanwhile, is focused on the open road, with features such as a head-up display, night vision, Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control and Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Guidance.

The Bentley Signature Audio system is installed as standard, however alternatives include the optional Bang & Olufsen for Bentley system and the 20-channel Naim for Bentley system. In the centre of the fascia sits the Bentley Rotating Display, which allows the central touchscreen to revolve out of sight at the touch of a button, to be replaced with three stunning analogue dials, or a panel of pure, uninterrupted veneer, for a more analogue driving experience.

Personalisation

The extraordinary specification of the Continental GTC Mulliner is just the beginning, thanks to a vast range of personalisation options. It starts with a choice of seven standard exterior paint colours, however that figure that rises to over 80 colours when you include the extended range of optional finishes, plus the satin and pearlescent finishes available from Mulliner.

Your choice of exterior finish can then be paired with any one of seven different colours for the four-layer fabric roof, including a stylish tweed option.

You can even turn most of the chrome exterior detailing black, by adding the Mulliner Blackline Specification. It also includes a black finish for the 22” Mulliner wheel.

Inside, you can choose from any Bentley veneer, whether it’s a high-gloss or open-pore wood finish, or a more technical option such as carbon fibre. There is even a Mulliner-only diamond-milled technical finish that can be commissioned specifically for the centre console.

For further customisation, you can enlist the help of Mulliner, Bentley’s personal commissioning division, to create truly bespoke features and finishes for your car.
